It was the best of days... it was the worst of days.

"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of
control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you
sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."
- Marilyn Monroe

This quote quickly describes how I'm feeling these days. My mood swings are getting worse, I'm not sleeping well at all, and my child doesn't know how to stop moving until well after midnight! I'm going to need this kid to get a grip on my daily schedule already! I'm about >thisclose< to pulling all my own hairs out!

Moving on... this weekend was a bit of a stress filled one. All the decisions and realizations of how much money having a baby is going to cost us has started to weigh in on my daily thoughts and worries. Don't get me wrong, we have GREAT health insurance... and thankfully I have wonderful friends and family as well, but seriously all the big decisions are going to wear me thin!

It was hard enough to register for baby things that we're going to need in the near future... what happens when it comes time to pick a day care / pre-school or what if I decide to home school?! I begin to think I'm going to deprive my child of something I had in school by keeping them at home? Am I being selfish for wanting to not work and be a stay at home mom? What if my kid grows up to realize that he hates us or resents us for a choice we make now?

I'm begining to realize that being a Mom is a precious job and that I should respect mine more most of the time. I never thought that being a Mom would be hard... but seeing my friends do it, and knowing that I'm about to be one, reassures me that I made the right choice with the man I married. We can do this together and we will raise the best child we can. That's really all I can hope for, right?!

Back to the quote at the beginning of this post. I can be a lot of things - impatient, selfish, impossible, moody, emotional and you can even throw a little crazy in there... but if you can't handle me now when I'm at my wits end, had no sleep and don't know what's causing my bad moods other than hormones... then I don't need you in my life! (: Thankfully I have a husband that no matter how rude or cranky I am to him, he always tries to find a way to fugure out what's wrong or if there is anything he can do to make it better and I love him more every day for it. He means the world to me and I would not want to raise this child with anyone else.

Wesley & Ryan - You BOTH have my heart... forever and ever. Amen. I love you.

Tune in Tomorrow for Brooke's Wedding!

Norris and directed by Greg Prange (#813).

Date Night Idea # 6: Bowling for Two

"Love is not just for fun, but fun makes love for us."

When was the last time you had some good old fashioned fun? If it's been awhile, this date night may be just the thing to renew the spark. Grab your partner and head to the nearest bowling center. To make the most of this date night, see our ideas below!
  • Silly Feet: For fun, buy each other a silly pair of socks they have to wear while bowling.
  • Nicknames: Instead of entering your actual names for scoring, make up cute nicknames for each other.
  • Bowl for Favors: Make every strike or spare worth something like a kiss, a trip to the snack bar or some other favor that is personal to you both. Maybe you can get him to do the dishes for once!!
  • Winning Round: Each person should write down what they will give to their partner as a reward for winning. Put the paper in a sealed envelope and put your partner's name on it. Whoever wins gets to open their envelope and claim their prize.
  • Pinned: See if you can get a spare pin from the bowling alley. Write the date of your time shared together and keep it as a special memento.
  • In Our Own League: If you both really enjoyed your time, consider making it a regular date night by joining a league.
Extra Tips:
  1. Call the bowling center ahead of time to see which night is their least busy night or time. Many bowling centers have league nights and finding an open lane on these nights can be extremely difficult.
  2. Wear or bring socks.
  3. Most bowling centers have some sort of arcade within them. Bring some extra change to play a few games together.
  4. Call ahead for special events such as cosmic bowling, glow-in-the-dark bowling or 80's night.

What has the world come to....

I religiously read the blog of one of my favorite television actresses and musician, Bethany Joy Galeotti. She writes the blog herself, and I love being able to read how she really feels about things in today's society. She's also a soon-to-be Mom like me... so I feel some how connected to her!

Today I read her blog about today's society and 'sex appeal'... it was really heart-felt, honest and I agree with every word! These are questions I have been asking myself for years now!

Here is the part that hit home for me...

Have we fallen so far? Have we finally arrived to the place where not only do you need no talent to become a role-model (and yes, I'm sorry but if you're perpetuating a public career, you are famous and young people look up to you), but you don't even need class? I guess I knew we were really headed down the tubes with the introduction of trashy reality tv... but come on! Even The Bachelor tried to pretend it was classy in the beginning. Now we've got drivel like Jersey Shore filling up the airwaves, and stuff that honestly shouldn't even be called music pouring out of the radio and into the minds of America's youth.

Oh, God. Do I sound like Dr. Laura? I mean, seriously... can I just call attention to this without being called "prude" or "religious" or "a conservative nut"? Please? Hasn't everybody had enough? Don't you miss the days when a sexy picture was Julia Roberts laughing her ass off in a white button-down? Now every young starlet is vying for layouts in men's magazines and posing in their panties with their legs wide open. I don't know... I suppose everyone's gauge for "class" is different from the next... and I hate to sound "high and mighty", but I'll risk it if I can lend a voice to any young woman too intimidated by the media to stand up for her value. I just have to ask... Whatever Happened to Class?

The Lo-Down by Lo Bosworth

I used to be an avid watcher of Laguna Beach and The Hills on MTV. I personally, was a HUGE fan of Lo Bosworth... so when I heard she wrote a book about dating and how to find the "right guy for you", I had to pick it up, just to read what she had to say!

Ultimately, I was impressed. The book is written in a very personal style. It makes me feel as if I'm having a conversation with a friend and not reading a book! She has TONS of great ideas about dating and how to pick the right guy, and also how to recognize a bad one. I'm no longer in the dating scene, but for my friends who are, I recommend this book if you are getting frustrated with always choosing the wrong guy for you!

She talks about the types of bad guys, types of girl you are and what types of good guys match up to you. There are also tons of quizzes throughout the book to help illustrate her thoughts by letting you quiz yourself according to her scales.

My favorite quotes in the whole book are:

"Believing in the qualities you already possess and the person you already are is what is going to land you your perfect match. Why? Because guys respect and love women who love and appreciate themselves for who they really are."

"There will always be bumps in the relationship road! Until you find the guy, all your previous relationships really are just more and more bumps. The upside? You are guaranteed to learn more about why your puzzle piece is shaped the way it is and about the kind of person you need to find in order to create the perfect match."

"The golden rule teaches you to understand that if it doesn't work out with a guy, he is not the right guy for you, so ditch the misconception that you must be right for him!"

"As boyfriends, the good guys are the ones who will let you be you, and love you for what that person is. They will encourage you to follow your dreams, make big plans, and live the life you've dreamed of, with them by your side."

Date Night Idea # 5: Plan a Day Trip

If you haven't had the time for a vacation lately, take the next best thing... a day trip! Escaping to a nearby city, or for an excursion is the perfect way to spend one-on-one time with your partner.

To start planning you'll need to do the following:
  • Decide where you want to go.
    - A nearby city within 100 miles distance.
    - A hot air balloon ride.
    - A local museum or art gallery.
    - A train adventure.
    - A lake or beach.
    - A fair or event taking place nearby.

  • Decide what day you want to go.
Once the day is decided, see if there are any special events or fairs taking place anywhere within 100 miles. You might find something of interest.
  • Determine how long your trip will be. Will it be a half-day, full day or even extended?
The length of your day trip will help you determine what type of food plans, transportation and entertainment plans you'll need to make.
  • Figure out what additional items you'll need to bring. Wherever you go you should always bring: a map, extra non-perishable food, sunscreen, blankets, additional clothes and a camera for catching those memorable moments! If you decide to have a picnic lunch or dinner, you'll need to bring picnic items. If the place you're going to will be cold, bring a blanket and warm clothing. If you're going to the beach, bring towels and additional clothing.
  • Locations I might choose living near Atlanta:
  • Helen, Ga
  • Gatlinburg, TN
  • Chattanooga, TN
  • Jekyll Island, GA
  • Savannah, GA

Date Night Idea # 4: Comedy Club Night

"Laughter is the shortest distance between two people." -Victor Borge

Ensure a great night with a visit to your local comedy club! Laughter is an incredible icebreaker, which makes this date night a perfect and very memorable first date idea. Go the extra mile to impress your date with these tips:

  1. Get a list of comedy clubs in your area.

  2. Call them or visit their web site to find out their schedule.

  3. Check out any age or dress restrictions.

  4. Find out if they serve food and/or beverages. You may need to plan for dinner elsewhere.

  5. See if they offer any special dinner packages.

Notes:
Be sensitive to your date. If you know a comic tends to pick apart their crowd, sit in a discreet location or choose a different night.

Some comics can tend to verbally bash different ethnic groups or generalities of different people. If this would offend your date find a different club or go on a different night.

Some Local Clubs in Atlanta:

Punch Line

Laughing Skull

Alternative Idea:
Enjoy the fun without the club! Most great or classic comedy sketches are available to rent. Visit a local video rental store and pick out a few of your favorites. Don't forget to grab a few munchies and drinks for a perfect evening for two at home! Check out Jim Gaffigan, Jeff Dunham or Brian Reagan!

23 Weeks!

Here is what 3D Pregnancy has to say:

You've got this pregnancy thing down pat now: You feel good, you look great, you're eating well and drinking enough water. Everything is fabulous. It's like your birthday every day the way people fawn all over you, giving up their place in the bathroom line and so on. OK, so maybe that doesn't happen every day, but being pregnant makes you feel pretty special, even if that jerk on the bus didn't give up his seat for you.

Your baby's got a while to go before her lungs will be ready for air and is practicing her "breathing" on the amniotic fluid—sucking it in and out of her lungs. Other highlights this week:

Fat production is in overdrive at this point (for the baby, not you! Well, OK, maybe for the baby and you). Your baby will basically double in weight over the next four weeks! You'll be happy to know the same won't apply to you.

Your Mini is starting to look more like a newborn as her skin becomes less see-through. Her body is looking more proportional now, although her head is still kinda big compared to her cute little body.

Your baby is about 11½ inches long and weighs 1 pound, or about the length and weight of a Harry Potter book.

Wow... I love that they compare my baby's length & weight to a Harry Potter book, that's awesome! (:

This week has been not very good to me due to congestion and what not in my sinuses and chest. I have not really been sleeping that well, and on the weekends and days I stay home from work, I try to nap as much as possible. I am starting to be a little more lazy than usual but I still get things done around the house. Just not on a daily basis!

This coming weekend we are going shopping for nursery furniture and to register for baby gifts! I'm so excited to go and pick out things for Baby Ryan! Although everything I register for will be kind of gender neutral so that we can use them all for more than one of my babies! (I plan on having more one day!) Also, I have booked my maternity photos for May! I'm so excited!

Date Night Idea # 3: T-Shirt Decorating

You can make shirts for each other, shirts you'll wear for a specific occasion, or a little something fun to sleep in. The ideas for this date night are endless.

What You'll Need:
  • T-Shirts
  • fabric paint and/or markers
  • hard surface
  • cardboard to put in between the back and front of your shirts so the paint doesn't bleed through
Getting Started:

Decide what your goal in making the shirts is, if any. You could also create shirts with an agreed-upon theme.

Set up everything before the date begins.

You might want to experiment with some of the paint on a scrap piece of fabric first to test how the paint looks and applies. Having a decent-sized piece of fabric for testing will ensure you don't use anything on your shirt that will make it look bad.

Make sure to have some snacks and drinks available and have a fun, upbeat playlist picked out to listen to while you work.

Keeping It Romantic

  • Make shirts for each other to wear to bed.
  • Create a little contest for "Best Artist." Winner gets a 20-minute massage.
  • Design matching T-Shirts to wear to a couple's night activity, such as bowling or a game night, or on a vacation.
Additional Ideas:

You can use fabric paints and markers on anything made out of fabric. Don't limit yourself to just T-shirts. Try tote bags, hats, sweatshirts, cotton pants, undergarments, pillows, pillowcases or blankets.

Add another dimension to the fun and make some iron-on transfers as well. You can make transfers of pictures, phrases, images... basically anything on your computer you that you can print. You just need iron-on transfer paper for your printer which can be found at most office supply or discount stores.

The Art of List Making

I stole this blog post idea from my cousin and best friend, Kim.

Enjoy twenty-five things you may have already known, figured out, or might want to know about yours truly. (:

1. I've always been a list maker. I make lists at work, I make them at home and I even make them when trying to decide on something (pros vs. cons). So making this list should be pretty simple, right? Not really. It took some time.

2. I'm nervous about being a first time Mom... taking total responsibility of another person is HUGE for me. They are mine for the next 18+ years. Scary.

3. I dabble in many things... photography, scrap booking, crafts, and jewelry making. I have yet to find my one "true" hobby.

4. I'm an avid reader, and I love a lot of the classics. My favorite book of all time is The Giver. That book opened my eyes to a lot of things... mostly that I wanted to expand and broaden my library.

5. I love sweets... candy in particular. Some of my favorite go-to's are: M&M's, Dove Chocolate, Starburst, Gummi Bears, Twizzlers, and Reese's. I know, it's bad for my teeth. I just never really cared.

6. I'm addicted to lotion! I carry it with me 24/7 and I'm always reapplying to my hands and elbows! I'm hoping this habit will eventually help me prevent tons of stretch marks on my belly! (:

7. See # 6. I'm also addicted to Chapstick/Lip Gloss. This winter has not been very nice to my poor lips... they are very chapped and dry!

8. I'm a sucker for Rom-Com's! Romantic Comedy movies are probably my most favorite genre to watch ever. They make me laugh, they make me cry and they usually end in a happy manner. I like when people are happy.

9. Starbucks is a weakness. Everytime I see one, I start to crave a drink - and that's not always a good idea! They could totally break my bank if I let them!

10. Simple math has never been easy for me. Actually, any kind of math has never been easy for me. It's the one subject I have always struggled with. I can't just put two numbers in my head and add them, I have to count it out. The easy part for me was multiplication - because of the memorization I was taught in school.

11. I LOVE being married to my best friend. He makes things so much easier and I feel as if I can always talk to him about anything, no matter how I feel.

12. People easily like or dislike me very quickly, I've noticed. Some say I'm too opinionated for them, and others say I act like I'm better than them. I don't think I'm this way... but just throwing it out there as a warning. (:

13. I'm ready to go back to college. We can't afford for me to take classes right now, with a baby on the way and my staying at home... but one day, I will go back and finish. I'm determined not to let myself go uneducated.

14. Organization is my most promising talent! Whether it's in my mind, on paper, in folders, or on the computer... everything has it's place and I know right where it is.

15. Cereal is my favorite breakfast food ever - and being lactose intolerant doesn't stop me from having it. I'm thankful for the Lactaid company for creating an alternative to milk that doesn't taste like ass.

16. My friends are special to me. When you get listed as a friend in my life, you should know that I am there for you no matter what and no matter how hard you try to push me away, I will always come back to you. I don't let my friends down... and if I have in the past, I do apologize from the bottom of my heart. I've learned a lot in the past few years about friendship and love and they are two of the most important things in life to me.

17. I'm your typical country girl in every sense of the term... I love horses, the outdoors and country music. But, I have a girlie girl side as well... I love makeup, shopping, and SHOES!

18. My favorite songs in the world are: Come Sail Away by Styx, Bennie & The Jets by Elton John or Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. No matter how many times I hear them, I never tire of them.

19. I constantly worry about money... am I spending too much, are we saving enough, are the bills going to get paid on time, we need to eat at home this week to save more?! I think it drives my husband nuts but he loves me regardless.

20. My in-law's have not always had the best luck when it comes to daughter-in-law's... So it's my personal mission to include them in our lives as well as my son's life. They are very special people to me and I love them dearly! (Same goes for my sister-in-law... I love her to death and she's become a wonderful friend to me.)

21. Museums are my favorite way to GEEK OUT! I love the High here in Atlanta and I love all the ones I have visited in Washington DC as well... I hope to get out more in the city and take my son to see them all as well during his life. These museums can teach us so much about life and about the history of our country/world.

22. Reality television is a weakness... I am currently watching The Bachelor, American Idol, Teen Mom 2, Extreme Makeover Home Edition and many more. I can't help it, I love seeing REAL people on television. (But I love my drama fiction as well!)

23. I'm into online role playing... it's not as lame or as geeky as it sounds. It's actually a really good outlet to write creatively with other people in a forum that promotes my being creative and doesn't judge me for choices I make for my characters. It's a fun way to connect with other people online and to write a story collectively. (Don't knock it until you try it!)

24. One day, I might just take the plunge and learn how to play World of Warcraft or Magic. My husband plays both and I would love to be able to share those with him. I just hope he has the patience to teach me! (:

25. I own more than 40 pairs of shoes... it's sad, I know. But I do wear them all eventually... and rotate them seasonally!

Date Night Idea # 2: Baking for Two

You'll share quality time together while expanding your culinary skills. No matter what kind of culinary skills you have, the memories you create will make you more than glad you tried this date night.

Planning the Date:
To make this date night go smoothly, you'll need to determine whether you want to include picking out the recipe and shopping for any necessary ingredients or supplies as part of the experience. If not, you'll need to have done this ahead of time. If do decide to include the recipe selection and shopping, consider making it a two-part date. Spend the night before getting everything ready so the next night can be dedicated to baking.

Picking Out the Recipes:
Select recipes that aren't complicated and that you will both enjoy baking and eating. You want your time together to be spent enjoying the moment, not stressing about every little step involved. For fun, each person should pick out one recipe to try. After you're done, you can compare who picked the best recipe.

Also, when selecting your recipes, make sure to keep in mind what cookware you have or will need to purchase. For example, if you make bread or cupcakes, you'll need a bread or muffin pan. You might want to check and see what baking tools you have or need as well.

Things to Consider:
Allow plenty of time for preparing the recipe. If you're new at baking, it might take a bit longer to finish than the recipe indicates.

Don't get upset if a recipe doesn't turn out the way you expected. You're cooking up memories, not training to be a chef.

Making It Romantic:
The fun part about baking together is spending time being creative. If you're making cookies, get some extra fun stuff and decorate a few of them afterward. You can do this with cupcakes, cakes, and brownies as well.

Keep the mood light and have music you both enjoy playing in the background.

Don't forget that bakers get hungry too! Keep a few snacks nearby to munch on and have your partner's favorite beverages available as well.

If you're making cookies, make fun shapes out of them such as hearts or the letters of your name. You might want to pick up a few cookie cutters for this.

While you're waiting for your goodies to bake, play a card or board game to pass the time and allow you to continue your conversations.

For another idea, try this suggestion:

Date Night Idea # 1: Bookstore Romance

I want to give my blog readers some fun and interesting ideas for the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday... some are more romantic, and some are more for the couples that don't want to spend a ton of money. Like this one...

If you love a good read and an inexpensive night out, this date night might be just the ticket!
So grab your sweetie, a few dollars for some coffee and use the ideas below to turn your
date night into something special. Print out this list and make it a scavenger hunt - modify
to meet your own interests as a couple!

What to do once you arrive:

  • See who can find information on the most unusual travel destination.

  • See who can find information on a new place to go within your city.

  • Pick a mutual topic to become an "expert" on and see who can learn the most about the topic in 30 minutes.

  • Grab a few books from the humor section and take turns telling each other the funniest jokes or stories.

  • Find a few poetry books and take turns sharing your favorite poems.

  • Pick a new craft or hobby you both have wanted to learn and help each other with discovering how to do it.

  • Play a "who gets the answer first" game. Set out on different tasks and see who can complete theirs first. Some ideas include:

  • Find the record for the longest kiss.

  • What is the world's smallest island?

  • How many books are there in the store on a certain topic?

  • How many magazines are there in the store on a certain topic?

  • Who can find out how to take the best digital picture first?

  • What is the best book for recipes for couples?

  • Who can find the strangest article or the weirdest book?

  • You can also plan your date night around special events happening at your local bookstore. Many bookstores offer free lecture nights, author signings, musical events or poetry readings. Call ahead and see what's coming up.

This idea can be easily adapted for couples with children.
Give your children similar tasks to do in the children's area.
It can be educational and fun while giving you and your partner a chance for
    some one-on-one time.

Don't forget to check out your bookstore's coffee or dessert shop as well!

    Memoirs of a Geisha

This book is a fictional story about a young girl, sold and forced to work as a Geisha in Japan. The book takes places before and after World War 2 and is in first person. The story is narrated from the point of view of Nitta Sayuri, and she recalls her childhood and expirences as a Geisha as she's being interviewed by Jakob Haarhuis, a professor at NYU.

The story is very intriguing, although fiction, it's based on real life interviews with geisha from Japan. I would not recommend this book for young readers because of the sexual and prostitute nature of it, but I do recommend it to my adult friends that want to expand their reading library.

The book is not very explicit, but does go into some details about how young girls go about becoming geisha, being forced to work as maids and train in school, dance, and playing an instrument to entertain grown men.

I would not call this book a favorite on my list so far, but it was good enough to read and keep me interested throughout the length of the book. I have heard there was a movie made, so I might watch that at some point, just to compare/contrast to the book.

Reading this book made me very thankful that I grew up in Southern Georgia and not in Japan where when your parents are no longer caring for you, that men can come and sell you from your homes, promising you a better life, and sending you out into the world of Geisha unprepared for what your future holds. I'm thankful that I have parents who loved me, cared for me and taught me not to talk to strangers! (:

World's Fastest Reading of "Fox In Socks"

    Nursery Decor!

This is the bedding set I have decided on for Ryan's nursery. (:
He's going to be my little cowboy! LOL

I ordered the 4 piece set for the bed and will be registering for the rest! I can't wait
to get his room put together! Of course, it won't look exactly like this... but it will be just as cute!

    18 Weeks to go!

Here is what 3D Pregnancy has to say:

Your Mini's hands have grown bigger and stronger and the nerve endings in her fingers have developed her sense of touch. She's in there testing out her newfound abilities by touching her face and grabbing the umbilical cord.

You're already raising a little Einstein. Your baby's brain is developing at a clip this week and will continue to do so until she's five years old (so load up on the Omega 3)!

Baby's hair is now a short, bright white crop (Billy Idol, eat your heart out!). No matter what color it will end up—red, blonde, black—all babies' hair lacks pigment at this point.

Your baby has started growing taste buds and may be able to detect strong flavors in the amniotic fluid. If you could see inside, you might catch her sticking out her tongue for a taste and then grimacing, a sign that perhaps you should chill on the chili powder.

Your baby now weighs almost a pound and measures almost 11 inches from her head to her heel, which is how the Stretch Armstrong in your uterus will be measured from here on out. Up 'til now your baby's legs were curled tight up against her torso, so she was measured from her head to her bottom (or crown to rump) and not head to toe. This week your mini is about as long as a package of Oreos and as heavy as a large bag of tortilla chips.

I've been feeling more fetal movement in the past few days, especially when I was about to board my plane to DC last Saturday. Ryan was freaking out. I don't know if it was a good or bad freak out, but I'm thinking he was just excited for his first flight! I had a great trip visiting with my Cousins and now I'm back home and back to a work schedule. ):

This weekend will consist of cleaning up the house, cleaning out my closet and getting rid of some things we don't need! We are also looking into pricing some fencing for the yard so letting the dogs out to go potty isn't such a task for me once I get to stay home! Currently we have to leash them both up and take them out one at a time. With a baby around, I won't have time to devote to walking them that many times a day!

Reading Challenge update: I'm currently reading my first book on the list that I've never read before, 'Memoirs of a Geisha'. So far it's been an interesting book and it makes me very thankful that I live where I do and not in these small towns of Japan where girls are taken from their homes and forced to work as maids, and train to entertain wealthy men. It's kind of a sad story, very interesting and very well written. It's easy enough to understand, but not a book I would recommend for young readers. It's a more mature content than I expected.

    My Trip to Washington DC!

This past weekend I made a trip to visit one of my best friends (who happens to also be my cousin) and her husband in the Washington DC area. We had a fantastic visit and enjoyed each other's company! We saw two movies, 'Country Strong' and 'Black Swan'. I enjoyed them both very much... I was glad to have shared seeing them with one of my closest friends.

On Sunday we spent majority of the day at the Newseum on Pennsylvania Avenue. This has easily become my favorite museum of all time. It was amazing to see all the front pages from years past and from current papers around the world. My favorite exhibits were the 9/11 one and the photos of the First Dogs. The other cool one to see was the last 100 years of FBI cases; the Una-bomber, the Lindbergh baby, and the KKK. It was amazing to see the news articles and some of the artifacts they have.

I really enjoyed my weekend... Here are some photos from my trip!

    Book Review: Water for Elephants

A very close and trusted friend told me about this book months ago. Week ago when she mentioned it to me a second time, I decided to buy myself a copy and give it a shot!

I'm so glad that I did!

I went into this book not knowing a thing about it - the characters were all new to me and I was completely oblivious to what this book had in store. From the cover, I could deduce that it was about a circus of some kind. Little did I know how much this book would surprise me.

The basic setting is a circus during the depression in the United States - the 1920's to 1930's when it was all people could do to try and hold a job, and hope to get paid! The story follow twenty-three year old almost college graduate, Jacob. His parents are killed in a car accident early on and he's left to pick up the pieces of what's left, and it's not much. His father was swapping veterinary practices for food instead of money - Jacob was supposed to join the practice after graduation.

After learning of their death's and realizing that their home and the vet practice held nothing for his future, he went on a long walk - ending up jumping onto a circus train. Just his luck, they were in need of a vet for all the animals in the show, so Jacob got to stay on as a new hire. He was useful in many ways...

I don't want to give away the whole story, but needless to say this story is about Jacob and his time with the circus, traveling the country, setting up shoes, falling in love, and dealing with unexpected turns of events that will ultimately change his life forever!

Now, there is a movie made and I'm not too thrilled about the cast list. It's just not who I had in mind for these parts, nor anything like what I pictured. But I do expect the movie to be a good one. I hope that my avid blog readers will be encouraged to pick up this book and give it a shot. Go into it with an open mind and see where it takes you.

Just on a small note - there are some sex scenes, so I would rate this book for mature audiences only! (:

    21 Weeks!!

Here is what 3D Pregnancy has to say this week:

Twenty-one is a magic number. It means independence. It means you just won a hand of blackjack. In pregnancy terms, it means you have gotten over the hump and you only have 19 weeks left!

Chances are good you're feeling someone performing a round-off back handspring in your uterus by now. Is there any other feeling this cool? Other highlights this week:

By now your baby looks like a mini-version of what she'll look like when she's born. All her facial features are formed and hair is growing on her head. She's even acting like a baby and will occasionally suck her thumb or yawn. Aww ...

Baby's heartbeat is getting stronger and can be heard using a good old-fashioned stethoscope. Ask for a listen at your next prenatal visit! By 21 weeks, fetal bone marrow starts making blood cells—previously done by the liver and spleen. This may not sound that exciting, but it's good news.

The amniotic fluid that has been cushioning your little bean now serves another purpose: Your baby uses it to "practice" chowing down. Yes, it sounds gross (as many aspects of pregnancy do), but it's an important step for your baby toward being able to chow down in the real world. Your baby has been swallowing amniotic fluid for a while now, but now the intestines are finally developed enough that she's absorbing small amounts of sugars from it. And let's face it, being able to effectively digest sugar is important at every stage of life.

Your baby now weighs between 10 and 11 ounces and is approximately 7 inches long—the size of a delicious, cold, frothy bottle of root beer. Float anyone?

Finding out this week that we are having a boy is very special to me. Read the previous post for more information on that appointment at the Doc's office! This week has been good and relaxing for me... we got snowed in in Georgia and the ice was so bad on our driveway that me and my husband couldn't make it to work. Luckily, he's the IT guy, so he could work from home. I had to take vacation days, but that didn't bother me!

Today is the only day this week I have to work - I'm off tomorrow to do laundry and pack for my trip to DC on Saturday. I hope that my flight only gets delayed and not canceled! I am ready for some girl time with my cousin Kimberly and just to relax and see some more of the city!

    It's a BOY!

Well, those of you who read this blog religiously already know probably from facebook or a phone call today that we found out the baby is a BOY! His name is Ryan Wesley Addison and I'm so glad to be able to talk about him by name now! (:

Also, I changed the design today to reflect my baby's gender!

I was super worried that we weren't going to make it to the ultrasound appointment today because of all this crazy Georgia weather... we live south of Atlanta, and it got really icy! Enough to keep my from getting to work two days in a row! I go back in to the office tomorrow, but I'm going back in a happy girl.

Now, the best part is that our baby Ryan is not shy AT ALL! His first shot once the U/S Tech put the gadget on my belly was of his butt, legs, and manhood! He knew I wanted to know, so it was the first thing we got to see! Then the tech proceeded to make sure everything else looked healthy and she measured him. He weighs about 14 ounces right now and is measuring right towards my due date, May 25th!

I think this is finally becoming real for my husband, seeing Ryan on the screen and being able to see his heart beating, and that he's healthy and growing to be so strong. We talked to the Doctor briefly after the ultrasound and then left the office. My next appointment is the glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. (Here's to hoping I don't have it!)

The only thing the Tech couldn't see was Ryan's spine - he is currently breech. Which means any movement he has pushes on my bladder... which by the way is no fun! (: But I don't care! I will deal with it! He has plenty of time to turn back around, so being breech at this point, according to the Tech, was okay. I got a TON of photos printed out, so I hope to get them scanned soon and posted here and on facebook to share! So be looking for those soon!

That's all for now. Happy Birthday to myself. I had a great day today with my husband and family. It hardly made me worry about becoming one year closer to being thirty! (:

    Birthday Dinner!

Earlier this evening my husband and family took me to Mr. Fuji's Japanese Steakhouse for dinner for my 26th birthday. (Which isn't until Wednesday). We had some yummy food, and my family got me a new Nikon camera! I LOVE it - I'm going to DC next weekend, so I plan on taking it and testing it out... I have to get good at using it and learn all it's features before the baby gets here in May! (: I also got a couple of maternity tops! Thanks Mom & Dad!

I'm not too excited about the winter weather that is supposed to come in tonight... it's supposed to be more ice than snow. I probably will end up not going to work tomorrow. Wesley doesn't want me out in the weather, let alone us in the same car, just in case. GA has declared a state of emergency, and I'm sure all the folks that live up North and deal with these weather conditions on an annual basis are laughing so hard at us right now! The stores are out of all the essentials! It's crazy out there!

But I am looking forward to the rest of the week... my birthday, finding out what we are having, hopefully, and flying to DC on Saturday to spend the weekend with my cousin and best friend, Kimberly! (: I can tell how excited I am because I've begun planning what to pack to take with me, and have already starting putting outfits together in my mind! I'm such a nerd!

Hope you all have a wonderful week out there in blog land! I hope to have time to update you all after our U/S on Wednesday!

    WTF?!

So, apparently the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Starbucks will loose the text around their logo and leave just the mermaid on the cups for their 40th Anniversary...

I'm pretty fond of the logo the way it is, and not sure I like the mermaid all by her lonesome. What do you guys think?? (Click the WSJ link above to read more!)

For Mom's with Babies to be Born in 2011:

Things Babies Born in 2011 Will Never Know

Huffington Post recently put up a story called You're Out: 20 Things That Became Obsolete This Decade. It's a great retrospective on the technology leaps we've made since the new century began, and it got me thinking about the difference today's technology will make in the lives of tomorrow's kids.

I've used some of their ideas and added some of my own to make the list below: Do you think kids born in 2011 will recognize any of the following?

Video tape: Starting this year, the news stories we produce here at Money Talks have all been shot, edited, and distributed to TV stations without ever being on any kind of tape. Not only that, the tape-less broadcast camera we use today offers much higher quality than anything that could have been imagined 10 years ago -- and cost less than the lens on the camera we were using previously.

Travel agents: While not dead today, this profession is one of many that's been decimated by the Internet. When it's time for their honeymoon, will those born in 2011 be able to find one?

The separation of work and home: When you're carrying an email-equipped computer in your pocket, it's not just your friends who can find you -- so can your boss. For kids born this year, the wall between office and home will be blurry indeed.

Books, magazines, and newspapers: Like video tape, words written on dead trees are on their way out. Sure, there may be books -- but for those born today, stores that exist solely to sell them will be as numerous as record stores are now.

Movie rental stores: You actually got in your car and drove someplace just to rent a movie?

Watches: Maybe as quaint jewelry, but the correct time is on your smartphone, which is pretty much always in your hand.

Paper maps: At one time these were available free at every gas station. They're practically obsolete today, and the next generation will probably have to visit a museum to find one.

Wired phones: Why would you pay $35 every month to have a phone that plugs into a wall? For those born today, this will be a silly concept.

Long distance: Thanks to the Internet, the days of paying more to talk to somebody in the next city, state, or even country are limited.

Newspaper classifieds: The days are gone when you have to buy a bunch of newsprint just to see what's for sale.

Dial-up Internet: While not everyone is on broadband, it won't be long before dial-up Internet goes the way of the plug-in phone.

Encyclopedias: Imagine a time when you had to buy expensive books that were outdated before the ink was dry. This will be a nonsense term for babies born today.

Forgotten friends: Remember when an old friend would bring up someone you went to high school with, and you'd say, "Oh yeah, I forgot about them!" The next generation will automatically be in touch with everyone they've ever known even slightly via Facebook.

Forgotten anything else: Kids born this year will never know what it was like to stand in a bar and incessantly argue the unknowable. Today the world's collective knowledge is on the computer in your pocket or purse. And since you have it with you at all times, why bother remembering anything?

The evening news: The news is on 24/7. And if you're not home to watch it, that's OK -- it's on the smartphone in your pocket.

CDs: First records, then 8-track, then cassette, then CDs -- replacing your music collection used to be an expensive pastime. Now it's cheap(er) and as close as the nearest Internet connection.

Film cameras: For the purist, perhaps, but for kids born today, the word "film" will mean nothing. In fact, even digital cameras -- both video and still -- are in danger of extinction as our pocket computers take over that function too.

Yellow and White Pages: Why in the world would you need a 10-pound book just to find someone?

Catalogs: There's no need to send me a book in the mail when I can see everything you have for sale anywhere, anytime. If you want to remind me to look at it, send me an email.

Fax machines: Can you say "scan," ".pdf" and "email?"

One picture to a frame: Such a waste of wall/counter/desk space to have a separate frame around each picture. Eight gigabytes of pictures and/or video in a digital frame encompassing every person you've ever met and everything you've ever done -- now, that's efficient. Especially compared to what we used to do: put our friends and relatives together in a room and force them to watch what we called a "slide show" or "home movies."

Wires: Wires connecting phones to walls? Wires connecting computers, TVs, stereos, and other electronics to each other? Wires connecting computers to the Internet? To kids born in 2011, that will make as much sense as an electric car trailing an extension cord.

Hand-written letters: For that matter, hand-written anything. When was the last time you wrote cursive? In fact, do you even know what the word "cursive" means? Kids born in 2011 won't -- but they'll put you to shame on a tiny keyboard.

Talking to one person at a time: Remember when it was rude to be with one person while talking to another on the phone? Kids born today will just assume that you're supposed to use texting to maintain contact with five or six other people while pretending to pay attention to the person you happen to be physically next to.

Retirement plans: Yes, Johnny, there was a time when all you had to do was work at the same place for 20 years and they'd send you a check every month for as long as you lived. In fact, some companies would even pay your medical bills, too!

Mail: What's left when you take the mail you receive today, then subtract the bills you could be paying online, the checks you could be having direct-deposited, and the junk mail you could be receiving as junk email? Answer: A bloated bureaucracy that loses billions of taxpayer dollars annually.

Commercials on TV: They're terrifically expensive, easily avoided with DVRs, and inefficiently target mass audiences. Unless somebody comes up with a way to force you to watch them -- as with video on the Internet -- who's going to pay for them?

Commercial music radio: Smartphones with music-streaming programs like Pandora are a better solution that doesn't include ads screaming between every song.

Hiding: Not long ago, if you didn't answer your home phone, that was that -- nobody knew if you were alive or dead, much less where you might be. Now your phone is not only in your pocket, it can potentially tell everyone -- including advertisers -- exactly where you are.

Wordless Wednesday - Happy Early B-day to Me!

    20 Weeks - Halfway There!

Here is what 3D Pregnancy has to say:

Hooray! You're halfway there! And in case you don't believe 20 weeks is a milestone worth celebrating, consider that it's longer than a semester at college—or any relationship you had in high school. Congrats! This is also the week your bambino is able to flash you on the sonogram, revealing what exactly he or she is packing.

This is the week most women get that ever-important gender-revealing ultrasound. If your baby isn't shy, the genitals can be clearly seen at this point. Will the baby pee standing up or sitting down? Well, that depends on how you potty train—but if you're interested, you could leave the appointment knowing if you're carrying a boy or a girl. Other highlights this week:

Your baby has established sleep patterns akin to a newborn now. Many babies even have a favorite sleep position already. Some snooze with their chins resting on their chests, while others nap with their head flung back. Many babies at this age fall into noticeable cycles of sleep and activity, so you may know before she arrives whether you have a night owl or an early bird.

If your baby is a boy, the testes have begun descending from the pelvis into the scrotum. If it's a girl, her uterus is completely formed and the rest of her "parts" are in development. (Is that TMI?)

From this point forward, your baby will put most of her energy into gaining weight and, not coincidentally, so will you! Right now your baby weighs approximately 10½ ounces and is about 6½ inches long, about the size of a can of Red Bull (which has way too much caffeine for a pregnant woman to be drinking).
Well, our ultrasound is scheduled next week, which I'm hoping works in our favor when it comes to telling what sex we are having! I'm also hoping that our baby is much like his/her father and I and not very shy! (:

Not a lot of other things going on right now, my birthday is next week. I'm excited to be twenty-six, but not too excited that it puts me another year closer to thirty! ): But I'm dealing with it and finding out what sex our baby is would be the icing on the cake. I'm ready to start nesting and making nursery decisions! (:

    Witch & Wizard: The Gift

When Whit & Wisty were imprisoned by the wicked forces of the totalitarian regime known as the New Order, they were barely able to escape with their lives. Now part of a hidden community of teens like themselves, Whit and Wisty have established themselves as leaders of the Resistance, willing to sacrifice anything to save kids kidnapped and brutally imprisoned by the New Order.
But the One has other plans in store for them: He needs Wisty, for she is "The One Who Has the Gift." While trying to figure out what that means, Whit and Wisty's suspenseful adventures through Overworld and Shadowland lead to a jaw-dropping climax and conclusion: the highly-anticipated fulfillment of the heart-pounding opening prologue of book one... The Execution of the Allgoods.

I got this book, the second of the series, for Christmas from my lovely husband. Check out my thoughts on book one here. So far I love the quips in this book much more than the first and the story has been moving along a lot faster. I still think that Patterson didn't have much of a hand in the storytelling, but the plot for book two has been much more exciting than book one. New characters are introduced and The One is after Wisty and her magical abilities! The siblings learn more about themselves in this book and more about their parents and the New Order that they are being forced to live in! Also, Wisty's musical abilities are brought into play as well... it's interesting and entertaining! I enjoyed this one a lot more!

    Welcome to my life, 2011!

    Well, Happy New Years Bloggers!

I've been MIA for a few days due to spending time with family and friends... and trying my best to forget about technology for a while! (:

I'm back though... and ready for what this year will bring to me! 2010 was good to me... I married the man I love, and found out that we're going to have a little one. I'm more excited to look forward to the new year though, and not think about the past! In nine days I will be twenty-six years old and on the same day, we hope to find out if we're having a girl or a boy. Please pray that the baby cooperates with us, I'm ready to start calling "it" by name instead of Baby Addison.

My new year's weekend was good. It was really laid back, stayed at the house, played some wii games and cards with my sister, husband and family friends. On Saturday we went bowling for a little while. But I gave up after two games because my arm was starting to hurt and I was tired of lifting my eight pound ball! (: So we went back to the house and played cards and then went to Buffalo's for dinner. My favorite!

Sunday was spent lounging around the house and having an OC Season Four Marathon. My husband got me addicted to the show... and now I have all 4 season's on DVD. I finished it yesterday... and was pretty pleased with how it all ended! It's a very good, but dramatic show. If you are looking for something new to watch and don't mind the teenage drama, it's worth it!

Update on the reading challenge... I've gotten a few books loaned in to me to read... I will be marking them on the list and will post reviews on the blog as I get them read! I'm excited to start. As of next Wednesday, the 12th, I have exactly 4 years to read all 50 books! I think I can do this for sure! (: I have a few books I got for Christmas I am trying to go ahead and read first before diving into the books on the list. Also, a friend suggested 'Water for Elephants' to me and I've got a copy in line to read as well! I'm looking forward to getting that one read before the movie comes out this year!

I think that's about all I have to say for now! Hope you all aren't too hungover from the weekend! Have a great year friends! Love to all!
