Title: Beautiful Creatures
Author: Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Publisher: Little Brown & Company, Dec 2009
Number of Pages: Hardcover, 563 Pages
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Magic, Witches, Urban Fantasy
Plot:
There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.
At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.
Lena
Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever
seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has
haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown
gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a
secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been
counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by
dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the
town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn
to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything. (Goodreads.com)
Personal Thoughts: This book was amazing and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!!! There are 3 more books!!! The series is called the Caster Chronicles. This is book one.
Lena comes to the small town of Gatlin, SC not knowing but one person, her Uncle, the town shut-in. Because of who he is, she's already hated as the newcomer. She has a lot of problems with people in the town who are small minded and unwelcoming.
Ethan recognizes Lena right away, she's the mysterious girl he'd been dreaming about! The book itself started off a little slow for me, but once Lena got to two and you realize that this two are connected in some really freaky ways, the book gets a lot better. I couldn't put it down!
I loved the chemistry between Ethan and Lena - they were the couple that beat the odds in this book. With Lena's BIG birthday looming over them... they felt doomed, alone in their love and connected to the past of the families.
The book itself is clean when it concerns sex and language - much like the Twilight books. It's really a good book and a good story! I can't wait until February for the movie!!
