The Wolves of Mercy Falls Trilogy - Maggie Stiefvater

One of my favorite young adult book series is called "The Wolves of Mercy Falls" by Maggie Stiefvater.

What I love about this book series is that the wolves are not your typical 'change when they reach a certain age, or when they want to' kind of wolves. It's all about the seasons.

"For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can't seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human... until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It's her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human—or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever."

As the book goes on, there are some "love story" things that happen - just like in most YA books. But there is more to the plot when it comes to these two teens.

"In Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. Now, in Linger, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping a very dangerous secret about her own well-being. For Sam, this means grappling with his werewolf past . . . and figuring out a way to survive into the future. Add into the mix a new wolf named Cole, whose own past has the potential to destroy the whole pack. And Isabel, who already lost her brother to the wolves . . . and is nonetheless drawn to Cole.

At turns harrowing and euphoric, Linger is a spellbinding love story that explores both sides of love—the light and the dark, the warm and the cold—in a way you will never forget."

The trilogy will wrap up in July 2011 with the final installment, Forever. I, for one, personally can't wait for the third book to come out! I have already read the first two books and I adore this series. A lot of people say that this series is too much like the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer. I honestly don't think it has anything in common with the Twilight saga and I am a fan of it as well as the movies.

Maybe you can take my word for it and give this book series a try! I say it's worth it if you are into the young adult fantasy realm like me! (I also enjoyed the Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins!)

EDIT: I suggested this book to a fantasy casting site and the owner and caster on the site, Gina, said that Shiver is on her "to read" list and hopefully we will see her casting selections soon! I would love to see Shiver as a movie! (:

  2. Grace was attacked by a starving wolf pack, and only survived because one wolf, the one with brilliant yellow eyes, protected her. Ever since then she's watched for "her" wolf each winter, caught in a longing she can't quite explain. Then one fall a boy appears on her porch, injured, with those same yellow eyes. Grace knows he is her wolf.
