Shine's most inspiring women of the year are truth-tellers, athletes, innovators, survivors, and one is about to be royalty. These leading ladies are by no means the only women of the year that had a lasting effect on us, they are simply a few whose persistent presence in the news made our staff proud. Flip on to read why we believe that these women deserve a nod.When the romcom queen became an Oscar winner this year, we got a taste of what Sandra Bullock is really made of. When she thanked her husband Jesse James for making this new deeper level of her work possible, we were inspired by their relationship. From there it didn't take long for Jesse James' mistress to reveal a very different picture. Because of her Oscar speech, we knew the gravity of what Sandra had lost. What we didn't know was that her adoption of a baby boy was nearly complete. With strength that she can no longer trace to anyone but herself, she has boldly taken on motherhood at what is likely the most trying time of her life.When congress approved the Child Nutrition Bill on December 2, it was a win for kids, families, and the First Lady, who lobbied hard for the bill. Planting a vegetable garden at the White House was one lovely thing, but this program that brings healthier foods to schools and free lunches to children on Medicaid is real, far-reaching change.

It's that time of year again - where we look back over the year and remember everything that happened, good or bad. I read this article this morning and wanted to share it with my readers... it's from the Yahoo Shine site and I agree with every word about these ladies...
