I've always been told that a vice is evil - a bad habit. The web dictionary defines a vice as 'an evil, degrading, or immoral practice or habit.' I don't think it's really that serious - mostly because I have vices. Although my vices are things like playing hooky from work and an extreme weakness for chocolate!
I have learned that misbehaving, if only a little bit, satisfies my need to doing something "wrong". I have recently read a ton of health stories online that prove that my need to misbehave a little can be a good thing!
This blog post is dedicated to all my naughty friends who like to feel good about their little “bad-for-you” habits !
The one that I love most is my weakness for chocolate! If you don't already know this - dark chocolate is a health food, so don't feel guilty about partaking in this divine treat! If you keep it to only a few ounces a day it may help lower blood pressure and even could reduce the risk of a stroke later in life!
My second biggest vice is playing hooky from work! According to Health: "Studies confirm that time off—whether on a trip out of Dodge or a 24-hour staycation—relieves stress, lowering your blood pressure and your risk for heart disease. It also promotes creative thinking (attention, bosses!). And women in a 2005 study who took two or more vacations per year were less likely to be depressed than women who took one every two years." I don't do it too often - just to stay at home and do nothing, but believe me, it can be refreshing!
Number three on my list of vices that prove to be healthy is my Starbucks addiction! Yes, I spend hard earned cash on an overpriced cup of joe at Starbucks... but as long as I'm not overdoing it on the sugary syrups and whipped cream, my daily coffee habit may be a good health move. The latest news on coffee suggests that it may ward off heart disease, fight some cancers and may increase exercise stamina. I'm game for a drink of coffee if it can help me stay healthier down the road!
Now, the last thing on my list of vices isn't one that I regularly pay for - but if I had the money I would! Getting a massage is the most relaxing thing ever! “In general, people who are touched regularly are healthier,” Alice Domar, Ph.D., said to Health. A massage has been linked to pain relief, and improvement in depression, anxiety and anger. So has pedicures - and I love those as well!
There are more things out there, such as: a daily glass of wine, basking in the sun, and getting some extra zzz's. As long as you do them in moderation - there should be no problems! Enjoy ladies, and have a piece of chocolate today without feeling quilty!
